Dispensaries Slash Prices

NY’s MM program has been criticized for many reasons, but one complaint has finally been addressed by medical dispensaries, the steep price tag on products.

MedMen, Etain, and Columbia Care dispensaries throughout the region have reduced prices on their products.

On October 1st according to Leafly.com, MedMen reduced the price of LuxLyte vape pens from $86 to $54, and the price of LuxLyte drops & capsules from $53 to $37. MedMen also decreased the price of its PharmaCannis product offerings.

Etain, whose closest dispensary is in Syracuse, decreased the price for its popular vape cartridges. The price of small, large, and XL cartridges dropped from $85, $165, $225 to $70, $135, and $195 respectively.

Columbia Care dispensary in Rochester also significantly reduced prices for vapes and tablets. The dispensary is offering free tinctures with the purchase of any product, the first two weeks of October. Columbia Care is the only dispensary with an in-store credit card available to assist its customers, and likely to increase customer loyalty. Columbia Care delivers to various counties in the state, but only for returning patients.

Dispensaries have been experimenting with ways to increase financial appeal to customers and gain customer loyalty since the inception of the medical program in NYS. Many stores offer discounts to Seniors, Veterans, and patients on Medicaid, disability, or workers comp. The Botanist, in downtown Buffalo, offers $100 off to its new patients. The discount is available as $20 off the first 5 purchases at the store. The dispensary also offers a refer a friend discount worth 25% off orders. Verilife (formerly known as Pharmacannis) offers products from other dispensaries such as Vireo and Curaleaf at cheap rates and also delivers throughout the state.

Dispensaries have faced increasing pressure from patients, providers, and competitors to make their products more affordable. Competition from other dispensaries may have finally driven prices down.

Another contributing factor could be the recent outbreak of lung illnesses and deaths linked to vaping. Many of the price cuts involve vape products, and the recent news may make customers more hesitant to purchase these products.
