A well-known CBD company, Charlotte’s Web Holdings, has launched a research and development division located in downtown Buffalo. Charlotte’s Web Laboratories, or CW Labs, is located in the Hauptman Woodward biomedical research facility, part of the Buffalo Niagara Medical campus. CW Labs will serve as “an engine of innovation” to create novel products using the latest in drug formulation and delivery technology. Charlotte’s Web markets and manufactures one of the most trusted and recognized brands of hemp extract in the world. The company aims to advance the science on full-spectrum hemp extracts. While hemp is synonymous with CBD, little is known about other important cannabinoids such as cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), and cannabichromine (CBC). The company is currently involved in controlled research studies that aim to investigate the safety and effectiveness of these hemp-based compounds.
