Rohan Marley, the son of the late Bob Marley, has expressed interest in establishing a cannabis production facility in Buffalo. Marley is working with other members of Ace Ventures and representatives from the city of Buffalo to see the success of the plan. The facility is expected to create over 50 jobs and would involve setting up a roughly 100,00 square foot production facility. Ace is planning to invest around $25 million dollars in the project.
Ace Ventures is a partnership between several notable individuals including Marley, Gee Robertson, Dan Fireman, and Kareem Burke (co-founder of Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella records). Buffalo seems to be an attractive place to establish facilities for cannabis production since other companies have contemplated setting up similar facilities. The key impetus behind these plans is the recent legalization of cannabis in New York.
Since the sale of recreational cannabis was made legal in April 2021, there has been no agreement so far concerning the issuance of licenses for businesses to sell cannabis. This is because the State still has not created the agency to oversee the process. The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) will be responsible for writing regulations governing the production and sale of cannabis. Marley and his partners at Ace Ventures are expecting that by the time their facility is complete, the OCM will have been officially formed and regulations will be in place.
If the plan does succeed, the facility will bring new job opportunities and generate excellent revenue for the state.
